Our cat will not stop pooping in our living room. When I find that she has pooped we will go to get her and she knows she did something wrong because she will pee and try to run away. We spank her so she knows not to do it again but she always does. One time she pooped right in front of us. Another time she all of the sudden peed on me for no reason. She is only 4 years old and she knows where her litter box is so why doesnt she use it? Is it because she is lazy? We took her to the vet and they said she was healthy so it isnt a health problem. She is a russian blue. Why is she doing this and how can I get her to stop?

She has lived in the same house since she was born with the same other cat. We have a litter box up stairs and one down stairs.

She is a russian blue. She loves water! She plays in it so spraying her does nothing. Although spanking her may seem useless its not abuse. If you spank your children it isnt considered abuse either.

OK - outside of your issue of pooping the cat is also peeing, which is telling you that there is something wrong - somewhere. i would first TAKE IT TO ANOTHER VET(second opinion wouldnt hurt) - have them check for any kidney issues and other things. Then, I would change the litter box more frequently, and a lot more often then you have been in the past. I would also take off the cover if there is one on the litter box, sometimes the fumes the litter box collect and smell toxic to the cat. This will make them poop outside of it - because it takes longer for them to poop and they are forced to be in there longer.
Also, you can lay foil on the spot in which they are pooping. They hate foil on their feet. You can also lay one of the rubber carpet protectors(with the small pointy things to hold it in place) upside down where the cat is pooping. The little pointy things hurt their feet - just enough to make them avoid it. FINALLY, I have alot of animals and I am coming from experience here. Spanking the animal AFTER they have done the act is completely and utterly useless. There are times that they poop for attention and although you do not mean it to be - spanking is a form of attention and they see it as nothing wrong. They are not kids/humans and the english language is not as understood as we would like it to be when it comes to the fourlegged ones. I would say a spray from a water bottle in its face is good BUT ONLY IF YOU CATCH THE CAT IN THE ACT!!! Leave the water bottle right in an easy area! If it is after the event, try ignoring the animal completely - walk away from him, do not talk or interact with him at all. If you find a time(any time) when he hasnt pooped in the area - then go up to him pick them up and praise them obnoxiously. i know it sounds weird, but i just went through this with a 5 year old male - and it is two months of poop freedom!!!

I really like that you put in all the relevant expertise! 9 years old is getting up there for a kitty in order that might come into play. I believe you might have a good procedure due to the fact in many instances a cat simply gets a wild hair. It can be higher to wait and notice if it occurs once more earlier than racking up the vet costs. One factor i'd ask is if the canine was within the apartment with the cat by myself when the incident passed off. They'll have gotten along well for three years but commonly unsupervised they would have a spat and the cat could just had been declaring his territory in view that of the canine. Something else that would have happened, someone knocked on the door even as you were gone. Might be it scared kitty and in an try and scare away the felons he asserted his territory. If the dog was concerned, probably barking on the vacationer, this would have delivered stress. It is at all times hardest to recognize habits of animals when one just isn't present to peer the circumstance. Hope kitty feels better soon.

First question - does she really poop all over the house or just in one specific area. I have 2 kittens and I found one had pooped in my living room. I had shown them the litter box (where I wanted to put it) but instead the other one went and peed right where the other one had pooped the day earlier. So, I put the litter box in the living room in the same spot they had their accidents and they started going in the box. They kept it up without any accidents for 2 weeks and then a moved it to the other side of the living room and found that they were able to recognise the move and did not have any accidents. After 2 or 3 weeks and moved it into the kitchen and same thing - they were fine. After a month in the kitchen, I moved it to it's final resting place - downstairs and they followed me down and were in it right away. No problems. You just have to be patient with her.

i love that you install each and each and every of the correct suggestion! 9 years previous is getting up there for a kitty so as that would come into play. i imagine you've a competent mind-set because now and again a cat only receives a wild hair. it is better to attend and note if it occurs back earlier racking up the vet charges. one project i'd ask is that if the canine replaced into contained in the living house with the cat on my own even as the incident befell. they might are turning out to be alongside nicely for 3 years yet now and again unsupervised they might have a spat and the cat would only were putting forward his territory as a results of canine. some thing else that would have occurred, someone knocked on the door even as you've been lengthy gone. possibly it scared kitty and in an attempt to scare away the felons he asserted his territory. If the canine replaced into in contact, possibly barking on the concentrated visitor, this may have further rigidity. it is continually toughest to comprehend habit of animals even as one isn't modern-day to ascertain the condition. wish kitty feels better quickly.

she may not "remember" where the box is. You may need to have multiple boxes. Also try changing the litter, she may have a "dislike" for that particular litter. If she is urnating on you, there may be a medical disorder not diagnosed. (test and a scope will clear up the issue)
Sounds odd..I know, but that's what the vet told us for one of our pets and it worked. Our vet ran some test and also examined her with a scope..after treating a UTI we saw some improvement, but had to resort to the multiple boxes.
Good luck to you and your cat

Get her a kitten. She is lonely, looking for some kind of attention. Get her something that will wear her out. A kitten will do that!
Try Feline Pine in the litter box, it turns into cedar dust, is non smelling and my cats do not really like anything else, neither does my house.
Good luck, GET HER A FRIEND or move a new litter box temporarily into the living room, I think she just needs a friend

First, stop spanking her - that is animal abuse. Use a spray bottle with water to squirt at her instead - when she starts to do the dirty deed. Afterwards isn't as effective.
Purchase "Anti-Icky-Poo" by MisterMax. This is a product especially designed to eliminate urine contamination. Cats will often urinate in the same spot where they have urinated or "poop" previously.
Why the cat is doing this may be psychological or physical. If is physical it may be a result of music being played too loud. I had a cat do that. A cat's hearing is much more sensitive to noise than humans. Normally, cats are martyrs, they never tell you they are in pain.
It may be psychological. Perhaps she feels threaten, is mad, wants attention, or suffers from depression. If you have children, the cat may feel threaten by one or all of them.
Good luck with you cat, she's very deserving of your care.

First of all, try buying a a second litter box for your cat.
Don't spank your cat - or any animal for that matter, you'll scare it.
Try buying a different brand of litter.
Maybe you should put some catnip near the litterbox to encourage her to use it?
I have also heard that taking a cat, putting it in the box, and moving its front pwas in a digging motion also help teach a cat to use the box.
-Best of luck
