We're expecting about 20 kids, ranging in age from 2 to 12. It will be an evening wedding, and we want to keep the kids entertained while the grown-ups are doing grown-up things.

I was thinking that coloring books and/or art supplies could be fun...What else do you think could be fun for the kids, not too expensive, and not too messy for the reception location?

Okay, so the space that the kids will use is already reserved. It is separate, but connected to the space where the rest of the reception is going on.

The plan is to definitely hire a sitter or two, who will be able to (a) keep an eye on the kids, and (b) help to keep the activities going.

Nanny, in case you didn't connect on this concept, the idea is to provide the kids with something to do OTHER THAN hang out with their parents. It's not that the kids aren't welcome, but that they will most likely have more fun with toys, than the would listening to the bridal attendants making toasts.

Michael's Crafts or Jo-Ann's should have some great craft things for the kids to do! Have them make picture frames or color pictures. Make sure you also hire a nanny or a college student to babysit. Thta way none of the parents will have to worry about the kids!

there was a booth set up at a bridal fair that had this service ... you can hire some of the older kids (16 - 18) to watch the kids, bring a tv w/ dvd or vcr for kid movies, coloring book, have them bring thier own game boys or board games and the have the parents of said kids pay the older kids for watching them ... you may be able to have a small room at the reception or have this at one of the houses near by.

How about getting a couple of cute scrapbooks from walmart or somewhere and some colored pencils, stickers, etc. and have the kids decorate pages in the scrapbook for the bride and groom! and if this is done, make sure some adults are snapping cute creative, and memorable pictures of the kids to put in this scrapbook! I'm a sentimental kind of person and if they did this at my wedding and we received it after wards, i think i would pry cry because its from children.

You might want to see if they still sell those magic pads. You run a pencil over it and a secret picture comes up. Maybe a quiz about the bride and groom for the older kids. Have the kids draw pictures of the bride and groom and have little prizes. Have a couple of kid friendly dances near the beginning. Have fun!

Relax, you don't have to plan anything! At the reception, kids stay with their families, visit with other relatives, make new friends, dance, watch the band, etc. They will be just fine. Kids always have a blast at weddings!

I was at a wedding recently that had a table designated for the children. They had coloring books, play dough, puzzles, th works! It was awesome, and I am definitely doing that for my wedding.
