Think of it this way - he's out of high school and I assume you are still in school? He's an "adult" and you're not quite there yet... If you were 20 and he's 23, perfectly fine... But right now, you might want to stick with the boys around your age group. Even though it seems that boys develop slower than girls (they tend to stay in that immature faze after girls have left it behind) an older boy might pressure you into doing things you're not ready for... I went out with a guy who was 24 when I was 17 (almost 18) and it was like EWWWW!!! He seemed so old and it was not cool!

No. 20 is not to old. I dated a 20 year old when I was 17. It's not that big of a deal. But then again, when you are 17 in Texas you are considered an adult in the eyes of the law and so he couldn't get in trouble anyways. But still, 20 and 17 aren't that far apart. And anyways, you just want to get to know him better. There's nothing wrong with getting to know someone.

you are going to have to deal with 2 different lifestyles. You are still in HS, he is either in college/ or the workforce. Your free time is different, as are you interest after hs. If your parents do not have a prob w/ it, and you think that your are mature enough to deal w/ it, prob ok. Also, men this age do not always have the best intentions when it comes to women, so keep that in mind as well.

well, i live in Newark, OH (not kidding) and it's plenty common here. we have lots of 16 year old girls dating 21 and 22 year old guys here. i swear there's something in the water in this town, the people here are a different breed of human... it's sad, but somehow they keep it on the down-low. i'd say go for it.

He is not too old to take you to dinner, but dessert is out of the question!
So long as he understands that you are a minor, you guys can date. And dating is a great way to get to know someone. He didn't ask you for anything more (did he? did he???)

Sugar, at 20 he's not a boy any more...he's a man...
...and at 17, in most states anyway, it'd be illegal for him to date you (you are a minor, he is not)...
As far as maturity and all that, you may be failrly matched...but wait until you turn 18 to get into anything serious, or you could really screw up his life (or rather, HE could really screw up his life)...

it wouldn't hurt to get to know him better, spend some time together, etc.. you don't have to rush into any type of commitment with him..
there is nothing illegal with having dinner with him.. but yah, if you are considering any type of sexual contact, that could open the door for legal troubles for him.
