I have a wireless connection, two computers, one lap top..I am able to install the ISP's software on one computer and the laptop but the main comp won't load the disc, so obviously it's not a dodgy CD. Rang the help desk and they said to contact the Vendor as they didn't know what the problem was-is..As i've had the computer for a number of years and bought from a friend, i don't know who the vendor is-was!....All ideas appreciated, thanks.

First of all: I am assuming you are running a network, so the working desk top and laptop are working fine. If you are on a network, then you may not have to have the ISP software installed.
Second of all: You didn't mention which ISP you are trying to load the software for. As this makes a big difference, because of the system requirements for the software may or may not be met on the older computer.
Third of all: Is the laptop and the working desktop able to get online at the same time? Are you trying to install DSL, FiOs, Uverse, or what?

You said in your description that you've had the computer for a number of years. It also sounds like you're installing DSL software. I have found that some computers that are three to four years old. Do not have enough power to run the DSL program. If the program you're trying to install came with the direction sheet, checked the minimum system requirements and see if your older system is within the guidelines. Good luck!

I know that it sounds silly but being an older machine are you sure that it has a network card fitted? Also have you loaded the network adaptors drivers into the machine?
