What do you mean by popular?

I want to learn more Serbian, by the way, and I'm an American. But I happen to have some good friends who are Serbian.

Serbian language popularity? Most Americans couldn't find Serbia on the map if you pointed to it!
Slavic languages are not very popular in the USA. If you asked someone if they wanted to learn a Slavic language, they would say no. Slavic languages are intimidating to most Americans.

Slavic languages are not generally used in North America where the common languages are English, French and Spanish. There are many immigrants from past and recent times who use thier native language at home and with friends. Some cities have major pockets of Eastern European immigrants and it would not be impossible to find Slavic speaking people in most major cities.

I don't know about Serbian, but Chicago has a significant Polish-speaking community.

I myself studied Russian in junior high and high school right after the fall of the USSR, but that program ended a few years ago.

I do not know of anyone who speaks a Slavic language.
In addition, the university that I attend does not offer any Slavic courses.
