it was when the stock markets crashed during 1929. it has nothing to really do with mental depression except for the fact that America lost a lot of money.

The great depression was when the stock market crashed in 1929. It was an economic downturn (instead up people getting richer they got poorer)

This was a great time of poverty, lack of jobs, food, and a very poor economy.

This has nothing to do with Mental Depression, although I am sure that there were more people depressed because of the economy. Lack of jobs, inability to feed their family etc.

For me it was when the life was sucked right out of me and I tumbled into a deep black hole. Nine years later after psych hospital stays, lots of ECT's and medications, I am alive again
