I know that not every religion is all sunshines and rainbows - there are "dark," "bad," and "terrible" things that practitioners would prefer to believe never happen by sweeping it under the rug and not speaking of. When answer this question I want you not to only take into consideration the sunshine and rainbows of your religion, but the terrible things as well. I need information about both sides of the coin in order to truely consider it.

By placing quationations around the words dark, bad, and terrible it is because when people talk about religions, cultures, and beliefs, or anything in general that they do not like they use these under in an attempt to make that someonething come across as just that "dark," "bad," and/or "terrible."

Thank you for your question. I especially commend you for correctly knowing that Mormons are Christians! Good for you! If you would like to know more - a good start for you might be to go to the official website at www.lds.org and click on "Basic Beliefs".
As far as 'bad things' ...The prophet Joseph Smith said "I teach the people correct principles, and let them govern themselves."
So when bad things are happening or do happen...it is not because people are taught to do bad things...but because of the inherent weakness in the flesh. We all do sin and we all come up short of perfection.... and that is one of the main reasons we need the Atonement of Jesus Christ...so that we can receive mercy when we mess up.
I get the feeling you are hinting at things that have happened in the history of the Church. I imagine you may have heard some bad things about the Church (based on you asking this question in such a way...as asking for the bad, dark things...) There are many things that people say about the Church that are just completely false and meant to slander the Church. I would suggest that you be careful of your sources...your questions are definitely welcome though!!!
I would also ask you if you have met with the Full Time Missionaries? If you have not, I would definitely recommend that you do that...that is what they do all day - is to teach people about the Church and answer people's questions!
Another thing you could do would be to read the Book of Mormon for yourself...Get firsthand knowledge! don't take someone else's word about it!
As far as the Church goes...I am a member of the Church and I love everything about the Church! I have been very, very, blessed by becoming a member of the Church and I would definitely recommend it to you and to everyone!
If you would like you can have a free copy of the Book of Mormon delivered to you (by mail)(or by the missionaries) by calling 1-888-537-2200.

Jae answered this very well! And yes we are definitely Christians...
I belong to the LDS Church a.k.a "mormons" and would have to say as far as the teachings of the church and gospel doctrine there are no "dark" principles or teachings...it is all in how the person governs themselves with the principles their taught. Jae hit it on the nose! Everyone committs sin, there are sinners in every religion...but that is why we are given the gift of repentance; to strive to become like Christ.
One thing I would advise you to be weary of...there are several subcultures that call themselves "mormon" when in fact they are not. (i.e. the Elizabeth Smart case) Groups like the FLDS, RLDS, Latter-day Church of Christ "Kingston clan", True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days, ect ect, I could keep going. These Polygamous sects broke off over a century ago and people DO get them confused with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). One primary difference is that most of them (if not all) practice polygamy we absolutely do not.
Hope this helps!!!

Well, they believe in some things that are a little difficult. And you don't find out about these things until you're well into the religion.
For one, there is a God planet (called Kolob) where god has sexual relations with his heavenly wives to make spirit babies! Fun huh?
Also, they aren't so much for hell, which I like. But they believe in 3 levels of heaven. ANd unless you're a good mormon you can't reach the top one. To be a good mormon you have to have done good mormon things, like get "sealed in the temple for time and all eternity" (you're married forever). This also involves "temple garments" aka "magic underwear" which good mormons are supposed to wear all the time. And they do this other temple ritual called "baptism for the dead" in which you get baptised, by proxy, in the mormon faith, for people that have died hundreds of years ago. (So that allllll your family can hang out in the top heaven with ya).
But one of the plusses is, that mormons think humans can eventually evolve into being a god. How much fun would THAT be?

Ummm- there is no dark, terrible or bad things in or about the LDS church... don't listen to all the gossip you hear about us - it's usually untrue or exaggerated.
We love the Lord, worship our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, follow the prophet, obey the word of wisdom, keep the commandments, perform SACRED temple ordinances and strive to live as Jesus would have us. If you have any specific questions and want to know truthful answers please contact me or even some local missionaries.

Well... billie answered your question really well. The dark side would be (I had problems with these things by age 14...) that black people could not hold the priesthood until in the 1980s, women were not allowed to worship for many years unless they were wearing a skirt. Both of those things have been fixed... but they bothered me early in life (beacuse white people were punished only for their own "sins" but blacks couldn't hold priesthood because of the "sins" of Cain).

I don't know much about Mormonism; there is a couple things that I do know though....the base of the mormon church is in Salt Lake City, UT, their religion was founded on some guy who found another scripture in America, and one positive thing is that the Mormon church can actually keep in account your family tree (if they are all mormon as well)

They are a cult- Google them- You will find many websites that show they do not live by what the Bible says- that what they believe is not biblical- and they will tell you some things they do believe out of the Bible just to lure you in- But believe me- they believer the Book of Mormon over the Bible.

mormonism is not christian. a great book to read is "out of mormonism" by judy robertson. stick to the holy bible only and a church that agrees with the holy bible only, no additions. if a church has dark, bad, terrible things in it, stay away. that is not of God.

back, you ask a rather good variety of questions, my answer is only too long. digital mail me and that i will supply all of it to you. 2d a million/2 of my answer 5. We have self belief that we are all spirit "brothers and sisters" as God is our Heavenly FAther, the father of our spirits. This contains Jesus because of the fact the "eldest" and Lucifer someplace in the %.. we don't comprehend something approximately God earlier He created our international, and our bodies. God did no longer "have intercourse" with Mary. we don't comprehend how Jesus became conceived. Jesus suggested to be perfect like our Heavenly Father. Paul suggested that we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. What which will entail, who is familiar with? no longer 3 separate gods, however the Godhead. God is our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour, and the Holy Ghost is our comforter. They artwork mutually, yet they do no longer look to be one substance or essence. The Trinity isn't Biblical. it relatively is from the creeds, that are actually not even scripture. We have self belief that all human beings needs baptism, by utilising the right priesthood authority. some human beings die earlier they even get the possibility to take heed to the gospel or are able to settle for or reject baptism. in the event that they do, we do it for and in behalf of them. and that they get the comparable threat after dying to settle for or reject that baptism executed for them. the "God and intercourse" difficulty isn't our ideals. that's from Ed Decker, an excommunicated Mormon, who hates our church plenty that he lies approximately us, and is happy with that actuality. in case you prefer to comprehend approximately us, in case you prefer to comprehend what WE have self belief, and why we've self belief it, then ask US. in my view, i do no longer care in case you never connect our church, yet you will desire to a minimum of reject us in keeping with what WE have self belief and dont have self belief, and not what some indignant ex-Mormon says approximately us. Like Mark Twain suggested, "It ain't what you don't comprehend that gets you into worry. it relatively is what you comprehend for specific that only ain't so.".
