or is that the technical word for black peoples' hair?
fyi, im reading a SEVENTEEN magazine, and im trying to figure out what type of hair i have, and dont understand what 'relaxed' means.

Having your hair relaxed means to get a perm....a perm is a mixture of chemicals many black girls use in their hair to make it straight. Judging by your question I can tell you that your hair is not relaxed. THAT IS A GOOD THING! As someone who gets a relaxer(perm) every six weeks, I can honestly tell you that it is a struggle. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that my hair is more manigable, but there are so many things that can go wrong. The relaxer can be too strong( which breaks the hair), using heat (which breaks the hair), and anything else under the sun. I won't stop getting them, only because its too hard to stop once you get started.

Relaxer is a chemical that is used on black people's hair to make it straight. I would strongly tell you not to relax your hair(if you were thinking about it) When black people get a relaxer it straightens out the hair permanently. The only way you can get rid off it is to cut it out. Some people have waited a while but they eventually had to cut it off. I had a relaxer for 9 years. It was ok, if I had some one to take care of it. Personally I feel that it is way to much maintenance. Every 4-8 weeks you have to touch-up the roots of your hair to keep it looking good. I got tired of that. I stopped perming my hair about a year ago. I have natural hair that I find is much more easier to deal with. If I want straight hair all I have to do is flat iron it. It doesn't do as much damage to your hair. I'm sorry about rambling.

most black people have naturally kinky or curly hair. A relaxer is a chemical that is applied to the hair that breaks down the curl/kink to allow the hair to be flat, thus a straight look is achieved.

This is for african american, when we add chemicals to our hair to relax the curl pattern, relaxers makes our hair straight and stay straight even when it gets wet.
