I loved my doggy but I don't know whether to get a new dog or just..not. It seems like he is irreplacable, and I'm even scared that it's going to be just as hard letting go my new pet when the time comes as it was with my old dog. But I loved having a pet, so I'm just not really sure what to do..

I love animals, and i will forever love animals. I lost my cat a few years ago, and this summer i finally got a new kitty. Just give yourself time to grief, and heal from the pain. But i think when you are ready you should get a new pet. And when you get a new dog, don't see it as replacing your other dog, you already know he is irriplacable. Just see him as new, and different. Focus on things that you like about your new pet, because he will be different. And his time will come also, but not for many years, so don't think about that while you are with him, just think about how much fun you can have with him while he is with you! I hope this helps.

This is a tough question. I love my dog to pieces. Everytime I read on here how someone's dog is dying or has died, I hug mine and don't want to let him go. I think your pet would want you to have someone else to love like you loved him/her. I know mine would. Dogs help with grieving. You will ALWAYS grieve over the loss of the dog..he was family. He is irreplacable. You have to live everyday. You can't sit around and think "what if this dog dies too"..That happens..it's part of life.. For me, if I have a dog 24 hours, I am in love with it. Most dogs live to be 13 or 14. Just love them as if they had been with you since you were a child.. A new pet will not take away your pain. I bought a dog last year and after 3 weeks she died. I still cry for her but this new dog helps with that pain. I am sorry for what you are going through but remember, you don't know the future..your pet may outlive you..Just enjoy every day so you won't regret if something happens

Of course your dog cannot be replaced by a new pet. And I can tell you that it is never easy having to say goodbye to such a good friend. The first thing to do is let yourself grieve for your loss. You will always love your dog, but the pain does get easier. And, perhaps in time, you will find it in your heart to accept another pet. I lost one of my dogs last year. And, shortly thereafter I adopted a cat. I felt that needed to do this because my dog gave me so much love and happiness that I should pass on what she taught me. Now, I had been grieving for her before she was even gone because I knew it was coming. And my new cat could never replace my dog. No other dog could replace her. They are all individuals. Just take your time. You don't have to get another dog now. But, perhaps, in time you will be ready.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Would you consider fostering a dog while you decide if you are ready? This would be a nice memorial to your old dog. You would still be able to let the dog go on to a new loving home (and not go through another death) or (more likely) fall in love with it and decide it is worth whatever comes.

Fostering is not for everyone, but if you would like to give it a try there are many dogs out there in shelters and rescues in desperate need of a place to stay.

You will never be able to replace anyone or animal, but you can fill that emptyness inside and relieve your hurt.Know matter what we do we lose our loved ones everyday and all we can do is remember them in our hearts .I think u should get another .You won't regret it.Don't live for tomorrow live for today as if your last or you will miss out.U don't have to let the pain control u.Have a picture in a frame on the wall when you can handle it and maybe write something nice at the bottom of the picture and dedicate that part of the wall to your passed one.
