I bought my puppy (yorkie/maltese) from a friend, but I know that they are expensive if you buy them from breeders. However, they are not as expensive as the other person has written i his answer. The teacups are somewhat more expensive but the usual cost is anywhere from $800-$2000. Note that females are more expensive.
Go to www.petfinder.com, enter your zip code and see if they have any near you. Also there are pet shelters that are specially for small breeds, depending on your location you can findout if there are any close to you and check them on regular basis. It's always best to adopt a homeless puppy than to spend so much money getting the same thing.
Also go on www.craigslist.com, and in the pet section, there are people that are selling their dogs or just simply want to find them a nice home. I once saw a free maltese there.
DO NOT order any puppies online, when I took my pup to the vet there was this other lady there that had payed $1200 for her yorkie and pup was sick.
It's always better to take your time and find the right pet than to spend a lot of money and end up with one that hasn't been well taken care of. I also suggest you post an ad on craigslist, people that want to sell their dog check it every day and they will contact you for sure.
If you happen to buy a puppy, make sure you check all her medical reccords and sign a contract with the seller that states if you take her to the vet and they say she's sick, you can take her back. Some sellers may refuse to do such thing, but that should be a red flag for you and just take your business else where.
You'd be amazed that how this small breed dog sale has become a sham and people are getting screwed left and right by paying way too high prices for no good reason.
Good luck.

Anyone who can afford to sell you a Yorkie for $150 is a backyard breeder or a puppy mill who has invested nothing into the dog's breeding or care. If you want to get a purebred puppy, wait until you can invest in a healthy, well-bred one from a good breeder. I guarantee you a $150 puppy is going to cost you 5-10 times as much in vet bills over the course of its life as a $900 one, that is if it survives the first week home. Alternately, you can get a healthy mixed-breed pup from a shelter for around $150. Your call. But please don't throw away your money on a puppy mill puppy.

Go to your local shelter. They have a lot of pure-breds if it must be a pure bred for you. There are so many unwanted animals in the world. A lot are in shelters (including pure-breds) who have animals which will be put down if not adopted. Please don't add to the problem!
