He's a child. Children have a tendency to not pay attention. It's your job to teach him. Keep him off meds for your childs health and safety.

All I can say is try and BE PATIENT first off! I know how difficult it can be dealing with a child who is hyperactive, and into everything, all at once. The other thing I can say is what I have found to work the best is give your child individual, direct attention, and help him/her to occupy their attention span as besst as you can. Try cutting out a big portion of t.v., and actually interact with your youngster without getting frustrated or angry. I know this isn't the easiest task all the time, but I have found so far that is the BEST method for my son. At least it gives them a chance to focus a bit more, if mommie/daddy are focussing, too. And also try not too yell too much, because that will just make it more difficult for your child to want to focus...good luck with this!
And if you would like anymore advice, I have a few other things that have helped us tremendously...just email me direct at blondevelvette83@yahoo.com I'd be happy to offer you a few more ideas to help

My son is ADHD - he is hyper wheras the ADD just gets easily distracted.

It is very hard my son is almost 15 and it takes every ounce of patience from the depths of my soul to deal with him. I have been getting calls from the school since he started kindergarten. It is difficult I know, but what else can you do? I do believe that some things he cannot help - others I belive are learned based on how we treat them b/c of the ADHD.

Good luck

Ask your pediatrician for a brochure on his condition. These kiddos are often impulsive and are actually paying attention to everything (which is very distracting- thus the lack of attention to what is important), so they can be trying! Be slow to anger and learn about his condition so that you can understand what he's going through. Imagine: how would you like to be treated if you had this condition? You'll need to stock up on love and patience!

Try herbal remedies before synthetic drugs. Focus Factor for children (in vitamin isle) is GREAT. Also what the doctors won't tell you is that maybe he or she has a food allergy making this happen. Try taking him or limiting his dairy intake and soy products help the nervous system. Also organic products work wonderfully. The Focus Factor starts to work in about 2-4 weeks and I have found it to be a useful vitamin in healthy children too. Good luck, I know this is a trying experience. Dairy is bad for you, but the healthcare ppl won't say that.

Just be patient and take it day by day. I know that sometimes it may be hard, I have a sister that is ADD. The only advice is that you have to try to treat him the same as you would a child that is not ADD and take things day day by day.

Make sure he has a lot of new activities as well as familiar ones available to him that he likes. Figure out what type of learner he is. Does he learn by watching, hands on, or reading. Always catch him being good, cut out a lot of sugars and caffeine, hug him a lot and find out what he loves to do. Accomodate that because he is probably a bored little genius who gets no satisfaction out of his activities. Take him to a child development specialist and have his iq tested. I bet your little Einstein will shock you with how high his scores are.

My child (son) has ADHD. I spend lots of time with him. Give him projects to do and have him active in a few hobbies. Reading more seems to help him as well.
Like with all kids, love and attention go a long way.

Keep him off caffene, cut out extra sugars like candy. Remember to give only two or three directions at a time. Have patience.
