Hmmmm, i'm afraid i cannot agree with you on this one. I was brought up Christian, and to hear many christians speak, they are very much against meditation, as they connect it to spirituality and beleive that you are letting allsorts of evil things and spirits in. I have been doing meditation for over 10 years now. If you want to believe that God is with you thats ok. Everyone is different. The meditation, i feel does benefit us. It can give a great calming effect and can help in other ways. I use visualization, deep breathing etc, and it has proved to be beneficial, whether i see my deceased grandparents or my life planned out in front of me, or just wonderful happiness in my meditation. It can give us a wonderful relaxed feeling....but........please be aware of how far you can go in meditation. If you are inexperienced, please have someone with you, as it is basically a form of self hypnosis, and you need to know how to come out of it. I would say that also, that anything can connect with you when we meditate, not just god.

It is possible over time to strengthen your mind through meditation to a point where you are no longer limited by mortal temporal weakness, but when you go beyond that, you are neither man nor god ,but something in between,as a pagan I meditate to further concentration;and improve the efficacy of my spellwork.I don't believe, based on my experience ,that a man can reach godhood in one lifetime;or even ten,but I would suppose that is what "evolution" is all about.

Meditation is the only way we can totally clear out thoughts and allow God to enter us, cleanse our minds and make us stronger. Though I am a Wiccan and do not meditate in the same way, it all has the same effect.

God always connects with us, we do not always connect to God. I think that the simplicity of the quiet stillness of meditations does help us stay connected to God, and helps us maintain inner and outer calmness. I think that meditation has great spiritual, and also physical benefits.
God Bless You

The mind can't comprehend the allness of God, we meditate on God to still the mind and enter the heart where we can experience unity with God in unconditional love. when you return to "normal" consciousness you will not be able to discribe unconditional love. The essence of your being is Unconditional love. When pure love passes through the minds concepts and emotions it divides into duality & conditional love / hate.Once you have unity with God in unconditional love you rise above (fulfill) the law of cause & effect (karma).. No longer a sinner.

When I meditate I try to clear my thoughts and stop all the nonsense that is whirling around in my head, it doesn't stop completely but it slows down to a relaxing level and makes me feel more in control again if things have been getting out of whack in my life.

Yes. I look at it like this:
Prayer: "I talk, God Listens"
Meditation: "God Talks, I listen"
"Connecting with" God....yes, absolutely.
"Being God" - that's not meditation - that's deification - and not what we should be about.
God's Presence *is* with us...that's what the Holy Ghost, the Paraclete is all about.

It works just as well if you meditate upon anything! What you believe (Hindu, Buddhist, Jew, Christian) is just the baggage your mind carries with it. Try contemplating a cabbage, or a rock - it`s in the head!

Yes, because we have to clear out the clutter in our minds before we are ready to hear (or at least be aware of the poresence of) God. Even looking up at the sky can help.
