He probably associates the cage with some trauma. Try getting him one of those kongs at the pet staore and put a treat that he likes in it. put it in the cage with him. he should start finding going into his creat more enjoyable and not just a punishment. I use it with my two dogs and when they see me getting their kong and going to the traet jar they get excited and go to the crate on there own.

dont listen to those other people, your cocker just might not be getting enough attention. Or it thinks the crate is a bad place. dogs should think their crate is a safe place to go and rest for awhile. Try giving treats to the dog when it goes in. Make it a reward to go into the crate and also the crate shouldnt be isolated. It should be in the most familiar room in the house where ppl are gathering or are commonly hanging out. I hope it helps your pooch.

My own dog doesn't like to be crated neither.
He was carefully trained since he was 10weeks old including crate training.
He is an AKC certified canine good citizen and a certified pet therapy dog. So, he is well trained.
He is now 3 1/2 years old.
Some dogs just do not like to be in any kind of crate or to be confined away from their family.
My dog is trained to have good house manners so he is very good without being crated when we are not at home.
So, you may want to focus on training your dog in house manners.
Just like people, dogs have their own unique "likes" and "dislikes".
So, don't blame yourself.
As long as your dog is well behaved otherwise, this is not a big deal. Just don't put him in a crate.

Make sure his cage his comfy for him to make him feel at home, like a bed or blanket and some toys and try to lure him in with some treats. Good luck!
