I disagree. I might agree that this story at least has given it a makeover, so to speak. Put some trendy clothes on it and whatnot.
But I personally don't have a sense that the ranks are closing in. This - out here on YA - is about the only place where I get a real sense of a fight going on.

Last I heard, religions of all types were on the decline, not rise. I notice the article doesn't have any actual stats to back up it's claims. Until I see evidence to the contrary, I have to disagree. Religion is in the news, sure, but hearing about it more does NOT mean it's becoming more prevalent. I remember a couple years ago kidnappings were big news for some reason, and EVERY kidnapping anywhere in the country was reported absolutely everywhere in the country. It might have led some people to believe there were suddenly hundreds more kidnappings than previous years, but that's not true. It was just a news fad.

I believe that our concepts of what constitutes a religion are growing and changing. While this may be perceived as strengthening by some, I personally simply see it as a shift away from fundamentalism by an increasingly-educated society.

It could grow wings and fly but it will still be exactly what it is - an affliction, a cancer on the brain of humanity.
