It all depends on the person. Some people just take longer to mature and some never do!

Only if he is challenged to support himself, physically and psychologically. The rigors of either college or work usually is enough to begin the maturation. Do not be surprised to find that some young men never learn from their mistakes and may carry this trait well into adulthood, impacting their careers and their lives.
Good luck!

Maturity is a slow process. Some sooner some later. Maybe mid 20's.

A few years, no way. Several to about 7 years, yes. In the mean time if he stresses you out to the point that your about to kick him you, lay down the law and show him who's the boss.

They definatly do mature, unless you two are twisted in a co dependency relationship...where as his mom you treat him like he is 5 years and you have expectations that he will never grow up..then he will probably be stuck in his maturing.
I raised two boys and they did finally grow up. It is wonderful

Physically, yes. Mentally, not necessarily.
You need to find ways to make him think of you as his friend. Because, at that age, his friends might be the ones who really influence his behavior. It's you or them mom. Are they going to win? Or are you going to become your son's favorite friend?
