lately as you all know a lot of controversity has risen over the videos of police officers who use too much power, aggrecion as well as force. i think that the only reason those people that we thought we used to think were safe still rule the streets is because they have more power now than a couple of years ago as well as their actions considered right and lawful, not wrong my question is: does anyone else think that what the police is doing is ridiculous in a lot of cases? i have just read a recent article about how police used pepper spray on a college student who would not want to leave the library when asked because of too much homework. does the police have to stoop to pepper spray and beating people now a days including college students? and the police says that the actions were right and that none of its officers did anything wrong. what do you honestly think?

A loud resounding AMEN, I am sick of hearing stories of people being be hounded by police for miniscule things. Most of them are poor and cant pay the unbelievable fines. Small towns are building their cities revenue by out of town speeders by posting rediculously low speed limits. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT FEAR THEIR GOVERNMENT THE THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD FEAR THE PEOPLE.!!!!!!!!!! what can we do about it?????????

I would have to say no, many people don't understand the restraint a lot of cops have, they just come to conclusions. Pepper spray isn't all that inhumane. Refusing to leave a location by a police officer is against the law, as long as there is reason behind it.....e.g. the library was closing, someone requested they leave for disturbing the peace etc. There are always extra things in articles like this they don't report.
This student could actually have been arrested for disobeying a direct and lawful order from a police officer, so it could have been a lot worse! Think about it this way, if you were a cop, and you had to remove someone from a location, and they refused, how would you work the situation, what would you do?
Before people criticize the job police officers do, put yourself in their shoes, understand the law and the requirements of the job. It's not as simple as most people think it is.

The first thing that police say when one of these videos crops up is "I was fearful of my safety".

In many of the incidents it appears that the "perp" is under control before extra violence is administered. Such as pepper spray and or beatings.

The police have a tough job, but they should be held to a higher standard and accountability when a documented case of excessive force is brought to light. The lame excuse that they feared for their safety is just that, lame.

I think that as long as the regime of the current presidential cabinet is in power, stealing our rights away one at a time, all in the name of God and the law, and oh, let's not forget the war on terrorist, then the police and the jails are going to mirror their leaders. I have experienced first hand what the justice system has to offer someone who bruises a person's ego, and every constitutional right I have was violated by MCSO in Arizona...then when I report a crime being committed against me and have a court order to stop it, they call me a liar and do nothing....
