I would recommend Turkey as you get all the influences of the east with a gentle mix of Europe.Istanbul is both hectic and fascinating, you have the Blue Mosque, the Galati Bridge where you can walk from Europe to Asia. There are many markets where you can buy Gold,Souvenirs and spices.Travel down the west coast and you will come to the historic site of Ephesus,a little inland is the therapeautic salt plains of Pamukkale, great for the skin. Then you have nice sandy beaches in Bodrum,Marmaris,Fethiye and Olu Deniz. You can pick up a boat and sail around the coast at your own pace,or even pop over to Greece for a Moussaka and Retsina. If you go inland to Cappadocia visit the city of Goreme where people live in caves, many movies were shot here. Then there is the holy city of Konya where the Whirling Dervilishes originate from.Eastern Turkey is very traditional and a good stopping point if you want to go to Syria and Lebanon.Northern Turkey has the Black sea coast with many fishing villages and easy access to Armenia.
The people are really friendly and the music and entertainment great, travelling around is also very cheap.
Enjoy

I recently enjoyed a week back packing around Catalonia in Spain. It's a wonderful and diverse place with excellent an excellent railway and bus network. You can easily combine a city break with a beach holiday, the capital Barcelona even has a beach!

Jamaica. Finest place I have ever visited. The people and the food are fantastic. And the Sandal's resorts are great too. Of the five Sandal's in Jamaica, three are family oriented, one is couples only and my favorite in Negril is clothing optional.

You haven't said where you're starting from, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say you live in the US. You can find any slice of life you like within your own country. If you must go somewhere else then how about Dakar in Senegal, where black Africa meets Muslim Africa, and they probably won't slaughter you for being American.
