I come from a country where the drinking age is 18 and you can drink even if you're not anyway, and let me tell you, it's a good thing I didn't hold a Drivers' License at the time. Thankfully, I kind of wised up by the time I was 21, of course I wasn't overdoing it but I still would have driven when I shouldn't have.

No it should not have gone up. I think it is hypocritical for them to pick and choose the way they want to treat 18 year olds. If the drinking age is 21 then the age to be shoved a rifle and sent into a war should be 21. It's pretty sad that they can go and die for this country and never be able to legally drink alcohol. They say they are not responsible enough to drink at 18, but they are responsible enough to handle mulit-million dollar equipment in the military. Not adult enough to drink at 18 but adult enough to be charged with ADULT crimes.....it's just hypocritical...

I assume you are American, referring to the USA age (which is the world's oldest, by the way). Why is it that there are so many Americans out here that are so American-centric that they forget
the rest of the world is different and Yahoo Answers English is
visited and attended by people in all the English speaking countries indicated at the bottom of this page, and by many also in the non-English speaking countries?????????????
In any case, no, the age should be 18, and younger than that for kids to have an alcoholic beverage with meals at restaurants when accompanied by parent or guardian. However, there should be introduced in tandem comprehensive high school courses teaching kids alcohol in moderation.

Children should learn to drink at home, with their parents. Teenagers drink to get drunk, they don't drink for pleasure... to enjoy the drink. If they were told how to drink by their parents, they would not drink to get wasted. I drank wine every Sunday with pasta with my family... I learned to drink wine and never drank to get drunk. Maybe this happened because it was not forbidden. So, in my opinion, when children learn to drink at home with parents, they don't need an age restriction. What I think should gone up is driving age in the US. I think 16 year-olds should not be driving... specially when they are drinking... so, let's move up the driving age to at least 18, like most other countries around the world...

I have opposed raising the drinking age to 21. If a young man or woman can risk their lives serving our nation, they ought to be able to drink a beer. That is not to say that drinking is not a problem. The costs to society due to alcohol is very high both in dollars, emotional damage and physical injury.

Ohio used to allow 3.2 % beer for 18 and all stronger alcohol you had to be 21 or over. It was a good system but the beer lobby killed it because of the extra cost of two types of beer.

For what reason? Education about the importance of moderation would be so much more valuable.
