This lady from work invites me over for a dinner but when I came over it was more like a banquet...all kinds of food set up. Well I had a couple of plates of things and she wanted me to taste 5 or 6 other things that I didn't eat pI said I was full....she told me to use the vomitorium - basically a "trench" made out of tile that drains into the pipes below her house. She told me to just vomit and make room for more food. I told her no that I wasn't going to do that because that would be gluttony and then she gets all upset saying it was because I didn't want to eat her food. Now she isn't speaking to me. Should I just vomit next time?

This is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard. Matter of fact, I thought this practice went out with King Richard and the knights of the round table.

No, you were not wrong. Who wants to eat and then puke, eat and the puke? What fun is that? It would be like dining in a pukatorium.

You made the right choice. But you should've done something to distract her so she wouldn't dwell on it and get offended. Next you attend a dinner party drink 3 litres of water in advance. Don't go to the bathroom. Hold it until you can't anymore then get up and stand in the middle of the table. Tell your dinner
companion(s) to open their mouth and close their eyes. Then pull out your penis and let the pee fly. If there's more than one person spin around so the whole table gets a taste. I have done this several times and it's always a crowd pleaser. If people start talking about politics and religion and they're getting upset or offended I just do my little party trick and pretty soon everyone is smiling and laughing again. Cheers!

Don't throw up next time either, you may want to decline her invitation or only go with the stipulation that you won't be throwing up. This lady is one of those people who thinks they are very high in their etiquette because they hear some weird tale and think it's true, while in reality they're very low in their etiquette, like the people who struck oil and still weren't accepted into rich society.

You have to ask us for advice on that? If you're not into vomiting at dinner, you should be allowed to say so without feeling guilty.

Even from the health perspective, you lose essential body fluids doing that.

Some people are just incredible.

ugh, bizarre lady
you were not wrong to not vomit! she cant make you throw up. and if she takes offense at that, she needs to get a life. but rlly, if you still want to stay friends or whatever, if she ever decides to invite you over again, maybe propose going over to your house for dinner instead- that way you wont have pressure on you to vomit!

She has got some very serious problems. For her to actually have a little trench for upchucking so you could eat more?!?!? That is sick, plain and simple. If I were in your shoes, I would never be able to look at this person again. You were right to stand up for yourself.

That anorexic thingy has quite the rip in her marbles bag.
I could never "stomach" someone like her.
She IS the vomitorium. Steer clear of her.

Well I think if you spent less time trying to find out how to discipline your whiny wife and staring at men in the local gym shower, you would be able to figure this out for yourself. Didn't they have vomitoriums in Rome? What was that saying "When in Rome......"

You did right!

This is the first lesson in anaxoria. What a useless way to "make room for more."

If she isn't speaking to you, good for you. Find another friend.

My question is, where do you work? What kind of sick person makes you vomit and has a specific place to do it? Don't vomit. It's gross and it will spoil your appetite.
