This guy I like told me something in passing about a girl he's been "sorta dating". Does that mean I have no hope with him?

That means in his mind he hasn't committed to anything. The same might not be true as far as any girl he is "sorta dating" is concerned. She might think that they are dating, no sorta.
In other words, it's like a girl saying she's a little bit pregnant. You either are or you aren't, there is no in between.

It means he's with someone else. He's saying sorta dating because he doesn't want to hurt your feelings. That's why you're asking this question right now. And no, that doesn't mean you dont have a chance with him.

Sort of dating is usually referred to as the time where you are talking to one another and hanging out, but not really anything physical yet. So he probably told you to let you know that he might be progressing to the next step with this girl so you don't get hurt feelings.

Are you sure he said Sorta Dating, and not Serta Dating? You see, Serta is a brand name. You may have heard of the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress. Maybe he's sending you an invitation. You know, he might be looking for a Menage a Trois--that's French for threesome.

yea u do!!!! cause if he really liked her he would have said that he is dating her. and the sorta dating thing .. it is cause he most likely just started dating her, but dating dosent mean commitment.. so go for it!

I think it means he has a girlfriend, but he likes you more, so he has manipulated the word 'girlfriend' into 'sorta dating'

it means your just hanging out, maybe going on a couple dates, but nothing is really happening or its not very serious. it basically means youre just friends- maybe with benefits?
