Church discipline is a must and is supported by the Bible. One only needs to read 1 Corinthians to see that. I think the pastor was making a valid point, but in a rather abrasive manner. According to the Bible, if a Christian is sinning then there are steps to follow. First he/she is to be approached one on one. Then, if no repentance and the sin continues he/she is to be confronted by 2 or 3 witnesses plus thew original "accuser" -for lack of a better term. If he/she still refuses to repent then they were to be excommunicated -but not completely ostracized like what happens in a cult. However, there may also come a time when that too becomes necessary. This may sound cruel but it's a Biblical command is actually done out of love and concern for the soul of the individual. The point of this was that the sinning Christian who refuses to repent would lose the spiritual protection of fellow believers and Satan would then be able to inflict punishment on the "flesh" so that the spirit may be "saved in the day of the Lord".
I'm sure you'll agree that some churches too frequently allow sin to go unchecked within the body of Christ and thus bring shame to believers and to the Lord. Sin has a habit of festering and spreading like a wild fire and pastors must invoke church discipline when it becomes necessary. If a sinning Christian refuses to repent then that individual must be "handed over to Satan". Human weakness is one thing but the wilful unrepentant sin of a believer is entirely different

No human is perfect, not even that pastor. Church is GODS home, not the pastors... God chose to die on the cross for our sins and he chooses to forgive us endlessly and give us chance after chance, day after day. That pastor should know that the church he preaches in is God's home, not his... obviously we're all welcome at Church.. so he was very wrong to say that. We'll all make mistakes and do things that God wouldn't like..but the Lord knows that, he accepts us above all our imperfections... Though yes, we SHOULD try to live as the Lord would like.. He is the one who has great plans for us, so why not do our best to live up to it? So half of that statement is okay...

im thinking he was in refernce to someone who is knowingly sinning and wont stop. case and point i seen a deacon of a church who was a tremendous alcholholic yet the church alowed it. after his 5th DUI resulted in a car wreck that killed 5 he was sent to prison. the church finally seen him as a bad influence because 5 other people in the church said, " if he can do it i can to" and also had multiple DUI's. the church is no longer active because a majority of its members are now in prison. its not that any are perfect, but we should strive to get to the mark. that mark is Jesus, Gods only Son, sent to be an example of what we should be. If someone is dragging down the church than they should be removed. dont believe me look it up Matthew 5:29-30.

That is completely wrong. If the pastor knew who this person was he should not have mentioned it in the congregation. I would also not want to attend that church if I had been there.
There was a church one time that we had visited and the pastor told the congregation that whoever voted for this particular candidate they would go to hell! It completely floored my husband and I, and we never attended that church again.

Wow. That's pretty harsh. Personally, I'd be looking for a new church. Basically he was saying no one in his church could screw up and there was no room for mistakes? That's completely denying our humanity and natural imperfection. We all make mistakes. It's how we go about correcting our mistakes and trying to be better people that should matter.

Judge not lest ye be judged and we are all sinners...and I came into the world to save not the righteous but the sinner...so the pastor needs to bone up on his christ model for he is not fitting of the one who will bring the flock to christ. There is a song lyric by Neil diamond which says you got to reach your hand out to your brother because that is what it is there for and you got reach out your other hand to God because that is what he is there for. Send him a nice note to tell him how you were affected by his sermon...

You have no idea i get that every Sunday its called an apostolic Ministry sweety Its to bring forth change no one should claim to be a christian and be wish washy and not live by the standars of the Lord no ones perfect but we fight for our salvation daily and live by the bible alone in the bible it states that the bible is sharper than any two edged sword. I bless your pastor be thankful that you have a pastor that looks after his sheep.

I would get out, he's trying to control them.
Cults do this kinda crap all the time. <--- I'm not kidding.
-Make up a bad guy
-Get the members to shun them
-Soon no one will want to question the leader (for fear of being called a bad guy & losing all their friends)
-And he will be free to get wackier and wackier as time goes on
-DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU

Well ask yourself this.... "Will God kick him to the curb?"
Oh and BTW, I'm still an atheist. I just looked at it from a different perspective...
