The easy way to make fried oysters so they do not have an extra thick coating is the following:
Buy fresh oysters from a meat market. Drain the oysters, beat 2 eggs, drop oysters into egg mixture. Then take "cracker meal', nabisco makes this and it can be bought in the aisle with cakes mixes etc. or take saltine crackers and crumble into meal. Roll the oysters in the cracker meal till they are coated well.
Fry the oysters in hot oil, turning as soon as they begin to brown, continue to turn until they are well browned, drain on towels.
SERVE with fries, cole slaw or baked potato and salad.
serve with either cocktail sauce or catsup mixed with grated horseradish. Good luck, these are awesome.

I don't know of any already breaded in a store, but you can use cornmeal as the batter if you don't like the thick kind. Just wash the oyster, dip in egg that has been seasoned (we use red pepper and garlic powder), and roll in the corn meal then fry them up.

For the sauce, if you get ketchup and slowly add horseradish to it (too much is not good) and stir it that is good. Other people lately have used Wasabi Mayo by French's that I have tasted and it is really good.

For the sides I would get french fries, or any breaded vegetable that you like and serve it with a salad.

"Fried Oysters" - 4 servings

1 1/2 cups finely crushed saltines
2 eggs
2 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. celery salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 quart shucked oysters; drained and patted dry
Salad oil
Lemon wedges

1) On waxed paper, place cracker crumbs. In pie plate with fork, beat together eggs, milk, celery salt and pepper. Using tongs, dip oysters, one at a time, into egg mixture; coat with crumbs. Let stand on waxed paper 10 minutes.
2) In 10" skillet over medium heat, in 1/2" hot oil, fry oysters, a few at a time, 5-7 minutes until lightly browned, turning once. Lift oysters onto warm platter; keep warm until all oysters are cooked. Serve with lemon wedges.

Side-dish suggestions: Bacon, Spinach (spinach is served over Oysters Rockefeller), Cocktail Sauce, Lemon Wedges.

Sauce...get regular cocktail sauce and add horseradish to taste. If you overdo the hot....add a little ketchup to dilute. I learned this trick in New Orleans from a local last week.
