I know them or not. The other day I went to the Doctors office and said good morning as I stepped in the door, and no one answered. The room was full of people, well I got a little pissed and repeated myself loudly, then everyone said good morning. What has happened to being polite, I was thaught that when you walk in a room a greeting its said. Why are people soooooo rude now a days

Well, I can understand that they were there for a test, and most of the people sitting there were men waiting for their wifes.
I should have been the one that would be sad because I was going for a mamogram, don't you think, the men were there just waiting, I am sure they did not experienced any pain.

Well to be perfectly frank people in this day and age are jerks.
People seem to be involved with themselves caring little about anyone or anything else. They are a product of the fast paced world we live in today. Don't get me wrong not everyone is like this. You are obviously old school (a very good trait), but most people in the world today weren't raised like you. Don't give up keep being yourself (even though it may piss you off sometimes). Believe it or not by being the way you are you are most definitely making a difference in the lives of others, even though you may never know it. Good Luck. And by the way good afternoon!!!

You are so right!!! I work part-time at the mall for the holidays, and part of my job is to greet people and say happy holidays and stuff, and probably 3 out of every 5 people I greet walk by without even acknowledging my presence. Also, the other day I was coming out of Starbucks and this guy opened the door, coming in, and I totally thought he was going to hold it for me, and he didn't and it practically slammed back in my face and spilled my coffee a little. I think people are just getting rude because people don't stress the importance of good manners anymore. Also, I think it's partly because people are sort of scared to say hi these days because they're paranoid about murderers and rapists and also they're worried you're going to try to sell them something. Still, would it kill them to crack a smile??

Actually they were being polite, at least by north American standards. Most people are there for treatments and consider the contact and knowledge of each others' illnesses as very private interest. Would you want to have somebody going by say hello to you when you were walking with your hubby/ boyfriend/ lover and ask how \you were doing with that nasty yeast infection you had when they met you last time? No I think you would not.

I have that problem also. I always say a greeting morning, afternoon, evening. I smile with a greeting when I get on the elevator. People just stare numbingly (is that a word) - The bus driver just looks and sometimes they are surprised and smile with a greeting. In any case, don't stop being who you are. Don't let others change you sunny disposition. We need more people like us.

I believe now a days the world is so fast paced and indulged in their problems that they don't take the time to take a breather and enjoy life's little gifts, such as a warm smile from a stranger or polite gestures. It is very sad indeed... any constellation to u Id like to say hello and have a good night

I have a sort of theory, that people are rude becuase they are either scared and/or angry. People have a lot of stress in this time in our society; I believe that there are a lot of people who feel that if they are rude to someone, it shows that they have power over that person, if only for a moment - sort of a brief bullying episode. I think it makes them feel powerful, to think that they are "above" the need to be polite, and when they feel powerful, they are taking out some of their anger on the less-powerful person, and also feeling "safe" however fleeting that feeling might be. I don't have any science to back this up - I'm just a person who thinks it's interesting to observe other people, and that's my grand hypothesis of the day.

I wish I could tell you, in all honesty. I have the same problem with a co-worker of mine. It seems that every time I try to be nice to her, she either ignores me, gives me a sarcastic answer, or shoots me a dirty look. Once, when I politely asked her how we could work things out as a team, she told me to "settle down" as if I were a child. Maybe people are defensively rude to each other because they expect others to be rude to them. Who knows.

YOU are the rude one for imposing on people the perceived need to reply to your greeting. What makes you think people are required to say Good Morning leading to an expection of a reciprocal. I for one don't reply no matter how loudly you yell. Too bad!
