I quite agree with your laissez-faire attitude. i think some athiests have a "bees in their bonnets" and no real respect for others' beliefs. And they form quite a vociferous lobby in the USA at the moment.
But I think the boot is generally on the other foot. Even fairly secular states like the UK or Denmark are officially Christian, and in the Moslem world, forget it! If you don't pay lip-service to their belief structure you will have quite a few problems.

"In other words, what are you trying to "save" Christians from?"
Ignorance.
But really it's not about saving you, it's about saving me, and every non-christian, and even some Christians from religious rule. I'm getting damn sick of living in a borderline theocracy.
I really feel no need to "prove" god's non-existence though. Burden of proof isn't on me. Rather it's a matter of showing that there's absolutely no evidence *for* god's existence. It's made up and there's not a single reason to think it's true.

No one can prove there is a god, and no one can prove there is not a god. I would never try.
And you must be kidding! Christians say the bible tells them to go out and shove there beliefs on others. And that is exsactly what most of them do.

I'm not trying to prove there is no God. I just think its superstition! Why cant everyone keep their religions to themselves and keep it out of the public? The U.S is controlled by a guy who believes he can hear and talk to god. George Bush is boasting about his telepathic abilities with god. How is that keeping religion to yourself? Its hard to not criticize GOD when its all around and you have people constantly critcizing you.

Get over yourself, dear, you're not the target of an army of atheist evangelists. Unlike believers, most atheists aren't out to prove or disprove anything, and they're under no illusions that they're likely to deconvert anybody, because that seldom happens.
On the other hand, there's no reason not to tell the truth, now is there?

You do not have to prove that there is no god, because there is no evidence for gods existence. Because there is no evidence of his existence, it is assumed that he does not exist. The same is true for leprechauns, gnomes, and more. Many atheists feel bad for theists, and try to save them from delusion.

Because Christians won't stop pressing their beliefs on to others. You want atheists to stop, say nothing, and keep their beliefs to themselves? Very well. You and other Christians are invited to go first.

If Christians would keep their "you're going to hell" crap to themselves, we would keep our ideas to ourselves. Am I right, Atheists? The only reason most of us say anything is in retaliation to Christians who try to press their beliefs on us!
