What has to happen? How long do you have to be together? Is it something that both sides decide on together? Anything else that answers my question besides the ones I asked?

Ask her to be your gf? and she will be if she accepts.
It doesn't matter how long you are together. As long as it's not after a day or week er something.

You will know. There is no checklist since everyone is different. But you (and she) will know since it is something you both decide. Oh and don't try to force it or get past some crazy milestones by a certain time, that takes the fun out of it.

Well be prepared to lose her all together if she doesn't reciprocate the feeling. Women are VERY good at picking up the sense that a guy likes them. If she doesn't do anything, I'd be aloof. Maybe flirt with other girls around her. That would DEFINATELY drive her crazy and go after you. But if that doesn't work, then she's not interested at all and you can move on without losing her or your friendship.

Well what my boyfriend did is that he asked to hang out with me one night. I was like sure. I didn't know if it was just gonna be me or not.

But after that night, after being friends with him for a long time, I realized that I liked him back.

We talked about what it would be like before we started going out. I told him what I expected and he listened. He told me he was going to ask me out in a couple weeks. We need a little time to adjust from being friends to boyfriend/girlfriend.

After that, it was official.

well you could ask her to be your girlfriend, or you could see how she introduces you to other people ( like this is my friend--- or this is my boyrfriend---) and I don't think time really has much to do with it
