Try covering the top loosely with tinfoil while you grill the other side. When you flip it, cover the grilled side with tinfoil. Kind of like "cooking in it's own juices." Works for most meats on the grill. I'm sure it would work for the ham, as well. Hope this helps.

My suggestion would be to slather it in whatever you like (maple syrup or brown sugar and orange juice, or even regular coke) and wrap it in aluminum foil. Avoid extreme heat because the sugars will burn. Even if you do not add any sugar, there are some from what ever the producer did, not to mention the natural sugars that come out during the cooking process. I hope this helps.
