Ideally speaking, a driver needs 360 degrees of vision around his
vehicle at all times, but it's not possible as there are blind spots
in the vehicle, like the four corners of the 'column' supporting the
roof which one cannot see through.
There are side and rear mirrors to help the driver see better to
avoid any unforeseen accident on the road.
However, for large and heavy vehicles, like transporting trucks,
the driver's vision is limited to the front and sides only through
large, left and right side mirrors. The back portion cannot be
visible at all.

It depends on the vehicle as to how much visibility a driver has.

Mirrors can be positioned to help.

Turning around and body movement may eliminate blind spots.

Getting out of your vehicle to look may help with manoeuvres.

Using reflections (shop windows, well-polished surfaces, etc) can give additional clues.

Or a combination of some or all of the above.

A driver should attempt, at all times, to know what is around the vehicle.

Yes by adjusting your side mirrors and the rear view mirror properly one should be able to cover the 360 degrees of vision without a problem. The only question remains is seeing a small child or animal below your trunk. I carefully check when backing up that no one is there, before entering car.
