I get junk mail for credit cards every week that I'm never going to apply for.

Yes, many unsolicited offers that you get in the mail have an opt out number on the small piece of paper listing their disclosures. I think you can also notify the credit bureaus (Experian, Transunion and Equifax) that you opt out, which will not allow credit card companies to view the basic criteria needed to extend an offer to APPLY for credit.

You "opt out" by not signing for them. Destry the card and throw the pieces away.

If you attempt to send anything to the credit card company ASKING them to "opt ou out," that will likely generate even more junk mail because they know that a real person opened up the envelope with the initial offer.

Its kind of like replying to junk email. If you repy, asking for them not to send you anymore junk mail, they can sell your address to another spammer because they can say that it is a legitimate, active email account.

Can I reduce the number of unsolicited credit and insurance offers I get?

If you decide that you don’t want to receive prescreened offers of credit and insurance, you have two choices: You can opt out of receiving them for five years or opt out of receiving them permanently. Call toll-free 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) or visit www.optoutprescreen.com for details. The telephone number and website are operated by the major consumer reporting companies. When you call or visit the website, you’ll be asked to provide certain personal information, including your home telephone number, name, Social Security number, and date of birth. The information you provide is confidential and will be used only to process your request to opt out.

Of course you can!

You can request to be put on the "Do-not-mail-list to stop them from coming in the mail.

You can contact the Direct Marketing Association for assistance with this request. Here's the link: https://www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offmailing

Hope this info helps you.

God Bless!

Here's the ftc website explaining how to opt out. I did it a few weeks ago by phone. We'll see what happens.

You don't opt out, you just toss them.

If you want the credit then you fill out the forms.

Of course...I think you can send them something or call them and have them take you off of the mailing list...That goes against your credit score when they send the pre-approved offers....Can mess your beacon score up...Good luck with it!!
