I asked my doctor that question and she said she didn't really believe in that sort of thing. They claim that there were just as many people gaining weight on Lexapro as there was for people taking a placebo instead. Some people lose weight on Lexapro. I know I lose weight when I'm depressed and I always gain a little when I feel better even without medication. I haven't noticed any weight gain but I haven't been on it that long. It's different for everyone and you don't know until you try.

Weight Gain is a possible side effect but I never gained weight while taking it. If you start at a low dose and graduly move up the side effects are less, atleast for me.

Except for prozac, I believe all antidepressants can cause weight gain. Try effexor, that is an snri, not an ssri like all of the antidepressants that make people gain weight.
