Here is a country with more noble peace prizes than any other, dominates the top 10 universities in the world this is a global superpower with a large number of intellectuals. Yet how in a country like this can 48% of the population believe that the universe and everything in it was formed AFTER the domestication of the dog.

America, particularly rural America, has always been anti-intellectual at heart. Look at some of our most beloved heroes in our entertainment: The cowboy, the rancher, the poor musician, the country boy, the street cop...not many scholars, philosiphers, teachers, or scientists.
That and a religion that seems to idealize ignorance as some kind of virtue...
