There are many reasons.
Dogs like to have their own special "spot." He (or she) may be running their because he's scared, and he feels more secure in his spot. It may be because he's just comfortable there- like your favorite chair or couch. Maybe he has a toy or bone "hidden" in the basket, and this is his favorite place to munch.
My dog does this same thing, and for all of these reasons. When she's scared, she runs to her bed. It's her special spot that no one else uses. It's "safe," at least in her mind, from scary people or annoying children trying to chase her around the house.
When I'm in bed reading a book, she's there. It's her place of contentment where she can curl up and relax.
She definitely has chewies hidden under the cushion. Every once in awhile I clean it out, and she gets very excited, (usually because she forgot she had all of those under there!) She likes to chew her treats there because it IS her spot. It's her way of saying "this is mine. it's here on MY bed. If I want to keep it for later, I can leave it here. Leave me alone and I'll find you when I'm done."
I'm not sure about fleas. I mean, if your dog DOES have fleas, then the basket is definitely a nice breeding nest. However this is not necessarily a sign of fleas. If your dog scratches a lot, I would check for fleas...but I don't think this is a sign of fleas.

well it depends. is he happily going to his basket or running of kinda scared? my dog's used to do that out of nowhere. they would be laying down then all of a sudden jump and run to a different location. usually their blanket. i found out it was because they had fleas and they would do that when they would get bite. it's kinda like a reflex. or it can be that something in the room is scaring them. so i guess it depends like i said if your dog is happy running or scared. if he is happy then i wouldn't worry especially if it is waging it's tail like normal when it gets there. oh yea, and don't forget that animals sense earthquakes that can make them trip out durning the day at different times months in advance.. mine do this also. actually all my dogs have since i was little....
hope this helps..

Dogs like to have aplace that is their own. You should if possible have a blanket, pad , or bed in every room that you spend much time relaxing in, even your study or office. If you can tell them to go to their place, they are usually pretty happy to do so.

I agree with Honeystrawberry. It sounds like your dog is getting flea bites.
