If Mormons consider four books to be scripture (KJV Bible, Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrine & Covenants), why is it that they only hand out the first two to proselytes? You can even call a 1-800 number to get a free Book of Mormon but they never offer the other ones.

Don't they want people to have all the information before making a commitment to the LDS?

because they have to get you into them before they start with the rules and regulations. i fthey gave us all doctrine and covenants from the start they would not have any converts.

i was just about to join the morman church when 2 things happened, they cave me D@C before all of my free thinking skills were gone. and i met a bishop that made the Bakers look like charitable people.

You can get a copy of the other ones, probably if you call the same number. You just have to ask. They give out the Book of Mormon first because it is the foundation, and an amazing testament of Christ, along with the Bible. If someone studies with the Missionaries, it is very likely they could also get the other scriptures. I have seen commercials by the Mormon church offering a free compy of the Bible and they provided a number to call. They definitely want to give you all the information before you commit, because there's no point bringing someone into the church not being fully informed, and if they will just leave latter.

If people will not believe that Joseph Smith translated under the inspiration of God the Book of Mormon why would they believe in the other scriptures?

Once the belief that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and by divine authority translated from ancient plates having Reformed Egyptian on them is found to be true, it seems logical that the other scriptures would follow suit. The Doctrine and Covenants are filled with revelations given Joseph Smith and some other modern-day prophets. The Pearl of Great Price are inspired scriptures from records belonging to Moses and Abraham that Joseph Smith translated.

Hi
I belong to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints
You can get the Bible and the Book of Mormon without cost but they do cost, and the cost of them is borne by members of the church in tithes and offerings.
When I became a member of the Church I bought all my Scriptures including the Doctrine and covenants and the pearl of great price, but to answer your question I think the reason the Church does not hand out the other scriptures is because it would cost twice as much as it does now.

The Book of Mormon will put you to sleep. The D&C will put you in a coma. The Pearl of Great Price will make you die Laughing when you see the Egyptian Facsimilies that Joseph "translated" into English. On the facs, Joe took it one symbol at a time and translated the English meaning. In 1 instance a . was translated into 200 words in English. Great stuff.

There is some freaky info in those two. They have to reel you in before they can set you up with those. If I just start telling you there are 6 foot tall people that look like Quakers living on the moon you will go running. I have to make you invest a little time (and money) first.

Guitarpicker said it perfectly...why would you read the other books if you first would not read the Book of Mormon???
If you understand and believe and know where they all came from, why we have the scriptures, and how they can help you, your life will be better and you will be blessed. I know that for 100% sure.

I think Paul put it best.

1 Cor. 3: 2
I have fed you with amilk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

Start with the basics, then read deeper doctrine.
