Ive been growing my hair for about 3 years now and ive always loved the look of dreadlocks, the only problem is i dont know what it takes to get them and how to keep them clean. I have thick, wavy hair (not african) and im not sure if that would make keeping them clean near impossible. My hair is now just a bit past my shoulders, and healthy. Also, if i were to remove them after some time, would if have to be shaved off and thats final or could it be undone to keep my hair length?
If you have any information on how to get and maintain dreadlocks please let me know, im not looking to cut them off because they got too dirty. This at the moment is something i want to really think about before doing, i hate having short hair.

not sure for white men but for black men - you start when you hair is short and growing and you twist peices together

every day you twist and twist

you wash gently
no drying and no combing

you apply some bonding grease (called bees wax) to your scalp for moisture and to help the hair hold better when you are twisting it together in between your fingers

it takes YEARS

and once you dont want them any more you cant undo them
you have to shave your head and start over

YOU WRAP RUBBER BANDS AROUND LITTLE SECTIONS OF HAIR, AND THEN DONT TAKE THEM OUT OR SHAMPOO YOUR HAIR. IT TAKES AWHILE, BUT THAT IS HOW YOU GET THE LOOK. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT TAKING CARE OF THEM. ACTUALLY, I THINK THAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF HOW YOU GET DREDS.
