I'm taking swimming b/c it's part of my gym class. and being a black girl - it's not going to be so easy hair wise. They expect me to swim for four weeks straight and then do my hair get dress and shower put on my contacts within 15 minutes w. a bunch of girls-about 40 or so. Then its like...they reduct time depending on how we do in class as far as getting ready..so sometimes 15 mins will turn into 8.

what can i do with my hair? I was thinking briads..or a swimming cap..but you know we have to take care of our hair. We ain't white and blessed with that silky easy to comb flowy hair. you know..? So how can i take care of my hair and what can i do to spend less time on it in school cause I cannot belate for classes...and ohh if you can think of any doctors note that i can get to help me skip the swim class.do tell

I think if you change your mindset of your hair being a curse and white hair being a blessing you'll be able to handle your hair better in general. Black hair comes in all textures and lengths be happy with whatever texture you have.

Either carry a bottle of Lusters Pink Oil Moisturizing Lotion and a brush and comb and wear a ponytail or go and get your hair cornrow. Take your swimming class don't be a quitter, just go and get braids until the last day of your swimming class.

I would suggest a large corn braid in your hair or medium to large sized braids so that you don't have to fuss with your hair.

I was in swim class for about 6 months, and I just put my hair in medium sized individuals and kept it conditioned constantly...but I would usually do the intense conditioning at the end of the day, because you are timed for how long it takes for you to get ready.....but definitely if nothing else get your hair put up in braids and if you can't do braids, then I would suggest a swim cap for your hair.

Alright, I'm white, but I used to swim with a couple black girls and they would always wear swimming caps, I'm not sure if they really liked it or not, but I know if they had weaves, they would just say screw it and not do it. I'm not recommending that you do that, but I don't see why your school would give you a swimming class in the middle of the day. That's stupid, maybe last class, or after school. But if i was you, I would do braids, it's only four weeks.

ok because you have to take this class I would suggest that you get a swimming cap.....and wear a ponytail....its the easiest hairstyle and is still fabulous. You didnt say whether you wear a weave or not so if you are ...dont try to get it wet.....and if not then you may want to protect your hair with cornrows (stylish but effective) for the weeks you are going to take the class....and you can still wash your hair with the cornrows just be sure to tie it down with a little gel and scarf

I wish I could be one of those white girls. Stop making a big deal about it and get a swimming cap. A doctor's note will not excuse you for having hard to deal with hair. Sorry.

As far as doctor's notes, I always said I was susseptable to ear infections (which is true). Thus, I couldn't swim without risking my health, and the school can't force anyone to do something that will make them sick. You could also say you have a bladder infection or severe asthma.

I don't know what you could do about your hair if you did end up swimming, though. A swim cap could be really helpful...

Hope this helped! Good luck!

swimming caps still gets your hair wet. I would say go with the braids but with all that clorine you might have to wash it a lot and your hair might break out. Girl Black people don't take swimming classes! Talk to your teacher and let her/him know what you are going through and they should be understanding enough to help you out with your situation.

Girl, there is no easy answer; but there is nothing you can put in your hair before you go swimming to get rid of this problem. However I do recommend John Freda's Frizz Ease. You can put this on your hair after you get out of the water. I sincerely recommend you shampoo and condition your hair to remove all chlorine which can potentially cause breakage on relaxed hair.
