It really annoys me when non-francophones try to answer language questions and get it all wrong... and then when other non-francophones rate the answer as good!

While it is correct to say, as Belindita does, that "beau is masculine singular, beaux is masculine plural," the first example is wrong. You must not write, "c'est homme est beau" (which translates to "it is man is handsome"). You must write, "cet homme est beau."

In her next paragraph, Belindita gets in over her head. Yes, "beau" changes to "bel" in front of a noun which starts with a vowel. But in her example, the noun starts with a consonant! That is because "beau" also becomes "bel" before a word starting with a mute 'h,' as well as in certain idiomatic expressions. Examples:
- On dit de la jeunesse que c'est le bel âge.
- C'est un bel homme.
- Elle est bel et bien arrivée.

The plural of "bel" is most definitely NOT "bels," which does not even exist. It is "beaux." Example: Ce sont de beaux hommes.

The feminine forms are indeed "belle/belles." For the sake of completeness, here is an example of each:
- Il nous a préparé une belle salade.
- Elle raconte toujours de belles histoires.

MamaFrog is entirely correct. Excellent explanation on the form "bel" by the way. These differences are diffucult to learn at first but do become natural as you hear or read the language. Next thing you know, you'll be saying to your friend: "Quel bel homme!" Good luck.

It asks you wether you write beau in the masculine, feminine and or plural form.
Beau (m.s), beaux(m.p)
Belle(f.s), belles (f.p)
