I dont think romantic love exists. It is just two people thinking they have found the answer to all their problems -- on a subconscious level. That is why romantic love fades inevitably. Real love is simply Truth imho. Some may call this God or some other idea, but that is not necessary, it is anything that never changes and is real ( that excludes anything physical obviously). If you want empirical evidence use the old children's song 'Magic Penny'. One can only experience it by giving it away... that does not mean telling everyone you love them but more seeing them from a true perspective " You have acted like a bad person to me but I realize that deep down you are just a frightened child who wants peace and understanding'...
--anyway , sorry for the babbling.

Been done to death this one. Read some decent books on it.
Short answer would be about ensuring mates stay together while the infant matures, a couple where the father stayed on to help with child rearing would produce more children than those where the man just left. Therefore love would be selected for.
oh and by the way the love part is easy, sex is more difficult to explain from an evolutionary point of view!

Actually, yes. Love can be detected via functional MRI and chemical assay of certain areas of the brain while feeling the emotion. Love is the cognitive awareness of the altruistic urge as regulated by the brainstem, processed by the frontal cortex.
Altruism evolved in every social animal known to exist, and even some semi-social animals (such as mother aligators who will protect her offspring for quite some time before totally ditching them).

There are definitive biological signs of a person being "in love." Chemically, things change in your body when you are experiencing "love." In that way, love can be proven.
It makes sense that we humans would have evolved this set of responses as a way of ensuring sexual relationships, thus procreation. It is also a way of ensuring parents caring for their young children.

Maybe it doesn't exist. However, no one can prove emotion. Do you think that God is just an emotion? If you think that He is a supreme "being" than there is no comparison.
BTW, love sucks.

Love is another one of those things that can neither be proven nor disproven. It's up to you.
