Hi, flown on both, Cathay was nominated best airline 05 - it is a great airline with great service, new aircraft and very good food even in economy. Eva is also a great carrier however it is less expensive then Cathay and you get a bit less service that is all. Either one are very good choices. enjoy your vacation.

I have flown Cathay before on a flight from HK to Los Angeles. I can only say, great service. The FAs knew an array of extensive languages and the cabin interior ambience is really to my liking, the food is also quite good for my standard. As for EVA,my friend have flown on it before and she told me it was quite good too,on par with Cathay. However,I would prefer Cathay :)

Cathay has a good reputation, but it's getting bad. Last few times I didn't get what I needed. They don't provide enough snacks to cover every passenger. One time I was super hungry and I asked a girl for food, she said dinner will be served in 15 minutes, but I waited for 1 hour.
When there is a stay over (2 hours), they don't let passengers get out the plan, it's so torturous.
I got the inside news that they are cutting budget, even on sugar and cream. This is horrible. The service is still ok.
You should bring some food with you when you're traveling such a long distance.

Airliners fly from west to east at the same time as that's area of their direction. they don't do it in the adventure that they do no longer ought to. Airliners attempt to fly the shortest conceivable direction from departure to arrival, and interior the case of l. a.-Sydney, that is in the course of the Pacific Ocean. notwithstanding, airliners even ought to think about site visitors kinds and triumphing winds aloft, and some airliners have regulations on how a strategies faraway from land they could fly at the same time as flying over water. All of those can substitute the routing so as that it is not inevitably the shortest conceivable direction between airports. some airplane also do exactly no longer have the variety for particular direct flights, and a right away flight from LAX to Sydney is 7488 miles, very the vast majority of it over water. Few airplane can manage this. those that can't ought to provide up for gas alongside the way, which will require important detours.

I don't like Cathay.
If you can get a good fare in EVA's premium economy, it's really worth it for the long-haul flights. I flew EVA on a long-haul flight and the flight attendants cleaned the lavatories quite often.

CX - Impeccable on-time performance, good service, quite good food but not as good as a few years back
Eva - Always late, non-existent service, inedible food
