It is a good source of extra protein but has no special powers for muscle building. It is a leftover product from milk after making cheese. It is fed to animals. There are no bad effects.

There are many versions of "whey" protein powder. Some are plain protein, some have supplements added.

Whey protein itself is safe. The supplements could be dicey or useless but add to the price.

No protein powder or dietary protein "creates" muscle. You have to "need" extra muscle, then you have to "need" more protein than you're already eating which is rare. Americans consume large amounts of protein in a typical day.

Whey protein powder is totally safe and is a healthy way to get more protein into your diet. There are absolutley no health hazards from taking whey protein.

Whey protein is an excellent source of protein for your diet, and it is a great way to supplement other sources of protein. No adverse health effects that I've ever read about, other than occasional minor side effects from too much.
