There is no way of preventing it from getting worse. You might be able to slow it down by flossing, brushing and mouthwash and not eating sugar. If you wait too long to go to the dentist you will have to get a root canal. Take it from me I have lots of experiences with cavities, unfortunately.

The only real way to stop a cavity from spreading is to make an appointment with a dentist and have it drilled out and filled.
In the meantime, brush three times a day with cavity-fighting toothpaste, rinse your mouth with ACT (a cavity-fighting rinse) and don't eat sticky foods or foods that get caught in your teeth such as cookies.

Cavities do not spread that way. Once you have a cavity, you have to go to the dentist so it can get removed, and the tooth filled. Sounds simple, but thats all there really is to it.
