Well typically you have a guy who has an idea. Then he writes it down and claims it's fact. Then people believe this person. Then they tell all their friends... and then you get intellectual mass extinction.

Once you have a sufficiently large amount of people, you figure out how to get money out of them.

When the Apostles planted Churches, they went into an area and spread the Gospel of Jesus. Then they would teach the people how to live a Christian life together. When the Apostles felt the fledgling church was strong enough to stand on its own, they would move on. But they did not leave them alone - all the letters Paul and the others wrote were to help these small communities grow and keep on track.

Now different churches spread in differing ways. Some through seed churches - churches started in someone's home - similar to how the original small congregations were started. Some through missionaries. Some, when a congregation gets too large, will split and they will create a new church in the area.

Old Ministers from Norway , came to America and traveled to area's that many Norwegians settled in. The early ones would have meetings in the Log houses and then as time went on, the men would gather and built churches out of logs and lumber. Like a wonderful old church that still stands today and it is called the Big Canoe. It was named after an Indian in America. But mainly worshipped by the Norwegians. Same goes for the schools back in 1845. The Norwegians built schools for their children. Eventually, they had to attend English schools and the children had to learn English. The Norwegians knew if they wanted to stay in America , that they all had to learn English. That is the way this Great Country works. America is the Land of English and it continues on today. English schools would not even tolerate children speaking Norwegian. They had to speak Enlish. The Emmigrants now , have got to realize they are in America.

unfortunatly too often it is because of mans ego..... but to follow God's plan a "church" would form when two or more of His people gather in His name.... also when a congrigation of His people grows too big to offer as personal a connection between believers as it should, then some will form a sister church so that the two will both be of a size to meet the needs of the congrigations...If every on dose not know the names of every othere member of their congrigation, in a reasonable time after joining... then the congrigation is too big...

In my hometown it's easy. Some pastor rents a space, puts signs everywhere and "opens" his church. Then it's 10% fee for everyone. I don't know about growing though.
