1) The afterlife is not mentioned in the Torah (Old Testament). In those days, there wasn't any thought of an afterlife -- when you're dead, you're dead. Judaism is about living life itself TODAY. Jews have "borrowed" the afterlife from Christianity, but it is never emphasized. There is no central "belief" in Judaism other than Deuteronomy VI -- God is One! Therefore, you'll receive a different answer to every question you ask. Some Christians say that sheol refers to hell. The root of the word sheol is "question." Therefore when one goes down to sheol, he goes down to the "unknown."
2.) Jews receive forgiveness whenever they ask for it as long as they are sincere and have already asked forgiveness from the one they've offended and have made amends. If we don't receive that forgiveness from the one we've sinned against, we will be judged and punished appropriately for the sin. There is no eternal punishment for anyone in Judaism. Not for atheists or evildoers.
3) Depends on the "denomination." Orthodox Jews follow all the laws except those requiring the Temple. Conservative Jews follow many of them, and Reform Jews seldom follow any of them.

reply: I've starred for my Jewish contacts. As I have an understanding of it (and I could also be fallacious) - Messianic Jews think that Jesus is the messiah and that he was once divine. That's in contradiction to the Jewish faith. That makes them Christians. Jesus did not satisfy the prophecies. He was once supposedly of divine foundation - the messiah may not be. G-d can not grow to be human. Jesus is provided as a human sacrifice, taking at the sins of all people - that is in opposition to Jewish teachings. The Messiah might be human and satisfy all of the prophecies in a single existence time - no moment coming. There is not any long-established sin to be stored from. No chance of hell. See how Christianity is incompatible with Judaism? You can not be Christian and Jewish whilst. And there's no Jewish bible. That's a Christian time period. There is the Tanakh, no longer the Old Testament and no New Testament in Judaism. # # # If anyone does not think Jesus was once divine, then he was once only a prophet and no longer the messiah. He did not satisfy the prophecies. Christians justify worshipping him on the grounds that they declare he's going to go back and satisfy those he did not. If he was once a prophet, he may not be again. That approach he could not be the messiah - divine or no longer. He did not satisfy the prophecies. If anyone believes Jesus was once a prophet handiest, they might much more likely be a Muslim. Jews do not think he was once a prophet both. If they believe of him in any respect it is ordinarily as a instructor. # # # Then I have a query: does your Jewish bible have the New Testament?

1. Not sure. Bible doesn't talk about an afterlife. When a person died, they went into the grave and that was it. "Will the dust praise you?" The concept of an afterlife is post biblical.
2. Salvation is achieved by doing good deeds. Read Isaiah 58.
3. All of the moral and ethical teachings are still in force today. Commandments concerning the holy days (Sabbath, Rosh Hashannah, Yom Kippur, Shavuot, Sukkot, Pesach) are in force. Laws dealing with sacrifice and the Temple are not in force because the Temple is no longer in existence.

I'm Jewish so I'm going to address the third part of your question. I'm going to disqualify myself from the first two since I believe that Yeshua is our Messiah, and you probably don't want an answer from me on those issues.

3. What part of the original Mosaic Law is still in force today?
There are four categories of laws:
1. Laws involving the Jewish temple and priesthood. Since there is no temple, and the priesthood has not yet been re-activated, nobody can keep these laws.

2. Symbolic laws like wearing a woolen/Linen blend suit. The important aspect of the symbolic law is to appreciate and heed the symbolism, not to actually literally keep them. (Wool keeps you warm, linen keeps you cool, to blend them is to be "lukewarm")

3. Cause and effect laws. Sanitary laws, dietary laws, etc. These are provided by a loving God so that we can avoid the sickness and diseases that disobedience can leave us vulnerable to. It's my personal belief that everyone would benefit from keeping these laws, but to disobey them does not effect/affect our relationship with God.

4. Laws that reflect the righteous nature and character of God. God is the creator of life. So "Thou shalt not murder". God is faithful, so "Thou shalt not commit adultery". God is true, so "Thou shalt not bear false witness". These are the laws everybody will be judged by regardless of religious persuasion. Hopefully you get the idea.

1) yes. its a fundamental tenet of judaism.
2) firstly, most everyone gets some afterlife. however, the better the person was in this life, the better the afterlife. (hell isn't eternal for us. its rehab for the soul. when the soul is better it goes to heaven.)
3) all of it. (except stuff we cannot temporarily do, like sacrifices due to the lack of the temple.)

1) Yes, as that is the tradition that has always been handed down since Moses.
2) Doing the commandments
3) Everything, but we can't do some parts because we don't have a Temple.
