What is the top speed of a 1966 mustang with a stock 289 engine and stock c4 trans? what are the mph shift points?

My buddy's Mustang would do 85 mph in 2nd gear! and the top speed was around 120mph. remember, those speedometers weren't that accurate :(

also the automatics had tall gears and much higher shift points than the sticks

then there are the GT's with the HiPo and 4 speed options....

Ask these guys, they own them....

Considering that these cars are now 40 years old, the top speed depends on how uch money you wish to throw at it.
If you have one with a stock 289, you have a GREAT mill,
I would put in a 4 speed auto tranny tho'
I agree with the first responder, a lot of things were done to underscore the insurance requirements of the day.
(85 on speedometer, but could flip the needle all the same)

The shift points are determined by the owner, with adjustable modulators. (a set screw in the body of the vacuum mod.)
