Do people really not see the difference between a fully grown human being with a complex fully functioning central nervous system capable of feeling emotion, pain, intelligent though and containing billions of memories, and a small cluster of embryonic cells the size of a pin head with no ability to feel emotion, pain, though of any kind and no memories. What kind of person wouldn’t kill the second one to save millions of the 1st one every year? What possible opposition could someone have to stem cell research?

Yet they think nothing of their loving god killing billions of people on "judgement day" because they are the wrong religion.
Oh, wait, he doesn't kill them, he tortures them for eternity.... that's better

I have hope that you want an answer and are not just "preaching"
some feel that life is sacred
they believe that it begins at the cellular level
isn't that what the evolutionists are saying? that we started as particles, then organisms, then ever more and more complex organisms?
if this is true, then once we understand that those are the building blocks of life, we may not destroy them, no matter the benefit
if you remove one from the cycle, we could inadvertantly reverse our evolution
we have many dead people who will never again have life, cant we use their stem cells?
God is Great

i can relate. most of the people yelling about abortion are the same ones that are so enthusiastic about capital punishment (as pointed out by fourmorebeers).
why is it o.k. to kill a human being (someone they might find is innocent later.), but not a bunch of dividing cells.
if with stem cell research we can find cures for cancer or aids what right thinking person wouldn't want to try?
as someone said "people without chronic illnesses". that is so true.
cancer is pretty common in my family.
i lost my mom, two cousins, two aunts, and my uncle to cancer.
edit
the people who see the difference don't oppose it.
the people who don't will not be convinced.

People who do not have a chronic illness.
Thus says the 31 year old who's had rheumatoid arthritis since she was 24! Anyone against stem cell research can go suck an egg, as far as I'm concerned.

no ability to feel pain???? Did you know that when a baby is aborted it tries to scream??? And did you know that the moment the baby is conceived brain waves start to function and the heart starts developing??? And, my friend, did you know that the baby's DNA and fingerprints are already formed by the second month? It is an innocent life that deserves a chance to live. The real question is....how do you spell "really"?

What kind of people? Sheeple.
Maybe I'll decorate a holiday pinecone this year, since a pinecone is the same as a tree.

Yes, I see the difference but the differences are just the development. Why can you NOT see that you were once one of those clusters of cells. You think you on some congetive level have made yourself who you are today but you didn't. You started out as egg and sperm.
It is wrong to create human life just to destroy it just as it is wrong to destroy human life.

I think it says in the Appendix of the Bible "Thou shalt not turn clumps of cells into popsicles 'cause they're really humans. Really."
... right next to the ever-so-popular quote: "Satan buried the dinosaur bones, alright?"
