I have a list of grades in excel. Which formula should I use to count how many "A" grades there are?

Using the Sum function will not work. You need to use the CountIf function. To do this, click in the cell that you want, then click on the = sign on the formula bar. Type CountIf and then hit Enter. Choose it in the bottom screen. Now, follow the wizard to get your results.

At the top of Excel click Data, then filter, it will help you filter out all the A grades, B's and whatever. It is always best to practice using MS software whenever possible to get a better understanding of it.
