I had it as a child in the 50's. Scarlet fever has just about been wiped out now with all the medical advances in the US.'

My son had it as a child; my late father-in-law had it, and was terribly concerned since his brother died of it when HE was a child. The brother's illness occurred long before antibiotics existed, however. Now, a simple course of antibiotics takes care of scarlet fever very quickly. It's a fairly common childhood ailment; in an adult, it usually presents as good ol' strep throat.
