For my whole life I've been feeding my dogs bag food, but recently I've considered giving my new puppy a different kind of diet. Does anyone feed their dogs anything other than canned or bagged food? What are your beliefs on more human like food? and could someone give me a few recipes to make up for her? Lol, sorry for all the questions : / ....this dog is really important to me :)

Have you researched the BARF (Bones And Raw Foods) diet? If you do a web search for it, there is a ton of information on feeding bones and raw foods to dogs just as they ate in the wild before becoming domestic animals. I personally don't feed it to my dogs, just because I'm lazy... but I know several great breeders who use it with fantastic results. There are also some pre-prepared foods that are kept refrigerated at the pet stores that are all natural ingredients like Bil-Jac foods. Hope this helps :)

New puppies and adult dogs should be fed hard food. The reason for this is dogs get gingivitis just like we do! So feeding your puppy or dog soft food will not scrape any of residue that collects on teeth off. Feeding dry food is always best for the health of the puppy or dog. Giving soft treats are completly acceptable, and will not harm your puppy. along with this thought process if you really love your dog the best thing also an owner can do from early on as a pup is start brushing their teeth. Any time a new puppy is acquired and new habits are formed the puppy will think this is a part of life that is completely acceptable. So make a visit to your local Veterinarian and see what tooth brushing techniques and dog food they recommend.
Also please enjoy your new puppy!! they give alot of love.
Good Luck !!

If you want the Dog to live a LONG time, DO NOT GIVE it people food, Just dog food, Give 1/2 of what they suggest on the bag, or can. A slim dog is much healthier than a fat dog, NEVER give a dog chocolate, it turn to poison in their bodies.
Had dogs my whole life, I'm 45

At our shelter, we feed the dogs a "modified raw food diet". It's based around kibble (Purina, Iams or Pedigree), and is supplemented every other day with fresh fruit, veggies, and raw meat. Our dogs like pumpkin, apples, bananas, baby carrots, sugar snap peas, and apple sauce. We give them raw lean hamburger (we make little meatballs and freeze then, then give the dogs one or two with their food every other day). We also supplement with vitamins when the dogs need it. Occasionally, we'll also give them a raw egg mixed in with their food.
