I get my little guys done at Kiddie Kandids, its a portrait studio in Babies R us locations, You can see their prices and poses on their website: http://www.kiddiekandids.com/
I've always got excellent pictures from them, and even if the baby doesn't smile at first, you can bring them back another day. There's also no sitting fee.
They also have an option just to buy the photos on disk and you can print out as many photos as you like at Walmart or any other place that prints photos.

Do it yourself. Seriously. We've had pictures done professionally and then we've had them done at Wal-mart and either way we spent a lot of money on pictures we could have taken ourselves. The quality was lacking. If you have a digital camera then there is no reason not to. Get creative with backgrounds. You don't need those boring back drops the professionals use. Load the pics on your computer and you can choose size and print. If you don't have a photo quality printer you can have places like Wal-mart do it or there are internet sites that will do it and is much cheaper than a photographer. In this day and age ANYONE can take a good photo. And professional photographers are way overrated. I got so tired of the boring, posed in front of a blue screen or fake sky background pictures. Come on! Creativity people! So, I started doing it on my own. Suddenly I had family asking me where I got my pictures done and friends would see the photos in my home and compliment them and ask who had done them. I never got that reaction from a studio portrait.

We even do our own sports photos now. We let the kids be with their team for group photos but we take the individual photos ourselves and they look soooo much better.

Depends on what you want.

I dont do backgrounds... I hate backdrops. I usualy go to a nice area such as McNay art museum or such. I also do a lot of in home shoots.
I have several packages that range from $7 - 70 depending on what you want.

For example a $35 package is 2-8x10, 4-5x7, 6-4x6, 20 wallets

I have used Sears for years with their smile savers plan for no session fees. We have always had good luck with them. I have 5 children so pics can get expensive. This year I had my kids stand in the front yard near a bush that was changing color and took their PICS with my digital. Then I sent them off to Costco.com and an hour later I picked up the prints, $2.99 for each 8x10 and everyone is RAVING about them. They arent fancy but they are better looking than the school was selling for $50 a kid. And I got to see them BEFORE I paid.

If you look inside any parenting magazines, there is usually a coupon for JCPenny Portraits. Theya have a very low cost.....Like $8.00 for a package and also do a really nice job. Sears would be my second favorite

It can be quite expensive, my sister paid $150 for a child package plus the studio fee. The photographer is unique in that you get to pick any of the poses, so she really got a good deal. Most companies have you buy one package with just one pose each.
