Immortality of self ? or the concept of a universe with lots of legs left in it for us to think of it as immortal ? ( It will still be here when we have shuffled off !) The way I see it is that if immortality is a fact bring it on , if not then so be it , oblivion should be familiar , after all we were in that state before our birth and we seem to break its bonds into life with not too many scars . Get a life is a commonly used cliche these days but hey! we all have this one , which should be enough to keep us engaged for the interim ( if that's what it is )
The acid test is to look around and consider who seems diminished in life , those with or without a conviction about immortality , what do you reckon ?

If 'immortality' is referring to the afterlife, I would say no.

IWhen you consider that the manner in which we live this "real life" can drastically effect the quality of the nexr "immortal life", I would say that belief in (the next) immortal life actually increases the significance of this "real life".

Well by 'real life' ur assuming the next life is fake. So for people who believe in it, no, Because the aim of this life is to make the next one the best life for us, if you know what I mean. If I was to believe that a few decades was the only life I would ever have would make it seem meaningless.

suppose it depends on exactly what you beleiev... it could do...

i think that however good you are and christian/muslim/jewish/etc, unless you relish your time here and try to live life to the full, you ain't going to heaven/be re-incarnated/etc....
you need to touch people (not literally!) and enrich their lives, which means living yours to the full too.

For me, to believe that this is all there is would make life meaningless.

when your dead your dead. majority of people fear death sooooooo much they invent a get-out clause that insures they will live forever in cloud cuckoo land. that get-out clause is god lol
