I have a pain in the upper right hand part of my back right next to my spine. The pain itself is livable except for pain that comes when I breathe deeply. Can a strained back muscle cause difficulty breathing or could it be something in my lungs?

A strained muscle can put a lot of traction on a rib and torsion it out of its normal position.. The results of this problem is usually noted primarily when taking a deep breath.. the breath is stopped short as a result of the pain. Is when there is contact with the intercostal nerve. Will give immediate and defined response.

If this is not the case, there are other conditions which could create a similar response but, would not be reflected in the proximity of the spine.

do u get the pain after u eat? you could be having a gullbladder attack...i would go to the dr. 21/2 yrs ago i woke up one night w/pain in my back on my right side by my shoulder blade and I couldnt breath. I went and took a HOT bath and the next day I was fine, but I started eating and the pain came back and I went to the hospital and found out that I had stones. So just call your dr and find out.

Go to the doctor, please. It could be a lot of different things. No one can diagnose you on Yahoo.
