Yes there are several hundred chemicals in cigarettes and any one can cause you to have an allergic reaction. The answer that it is the smoke is not necessarily correct. People allergic to cigarette smoke are allergic to one of the chemicals in cigarettes that becomes a gas as cigarette's burn. Someone allergic to nicotine can have an allegic reaction from holding a cigarette or sucking on an unlit cigarette.

yes, in fact you can be allergic to almost everything from choocolate, nuts, metals and yes even cigarettes. These allergies can be temporary or permanent. Additionally, you can become allergic to items that presently causes no reaction at this time. This is due to your body changing as it ages.

Yes.

If not the tobacco itself, all the chemicals that are used growing and processing it.

I don't like cigarettes anyway, and there are some kinds that will invariably choke me and burn my eyes. This was with second-hand smoke, mind you.
